The Difference Between Prostitution & Solicitation Crimes

Prostitution and solicitation are different types of sex crimes. The consequences of a conviction for solicitation or prostitution can have lasting legal, social, and personal ramifications for the accused.

What Does Soliciting Sex Mean?

Solicitation” is the act of asking a sex worker for sexual favors in exchange for money, or offering money/something of value in exchange for sex.

Solicitation of Prostitution Meaning

Prostitution” is a crime where the individual accepts money or something of value in exchange for performing sex acts. Although prostitution is legal in certain rural areas of Nevada, it is illegal in Las Vegas and throughout Clark County.

Penalties For Sexual Solicitation and Prostitution

Punishments for solicitation versus prostitution are similar, but you will face steeper penalties for the actual act rather than just accepting an offer. While solicitation of an adult is a misdemeanor crime and comes with a maximum punishment of 90 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine, prostitution is gross misdemeanor. The penalty for prostitution is, therefore, more severe, and conviction results in a maximum of 1 year in jail and/or a $3,000 fine. Punishments for solicitation of a minor are much stricter and could land you in prison while tens of thousands of dollars in fines, not to mention you will become a registered sex offender.
