Penalties for Selling a Controlled Substance
Although selling narcotics is charged as a felony in Nevada, the severity of the penalty depends on two factors – the drug’s classification and whether this is your first or subsequent drug offense. There are five scheduled classifications drugs can be placed in, depending on the likelihood of abuse or addiction - class schedule I drugs are the most severe, while class V scheduled drugs are less harmful. In some cases, probation is an option for first-time offenders.
If convicted of a sales charge, penalties can include:
- Up to 15 years in prison
- Fines up to $20,000
