Common Causes of Car Accidents in Nevada

|

From work and school to important appointments and household errands, we rely on driving our cars to get from point A to point B. Unfortunately, car accidents are very common in Nevada and throughout the United States.

The most common cause of all motor vehicle crashes is driver error, which is why it is imperative to always drive in a safe manner and follow the traffic laws. However, there are many circumstances that may cause a motorist to drive in an unsafe manner.

The following are the most common causes of car accidents in Nevada:

  • Distracted driving – Since our smartphones have become so integral to our daily lives for the past decades, many people continue to use their phones while driving. Distractions can take your hands away from the steering wheel, the eyes away from the road, and your mind away from the primary task of operating your vehicle.

  • Drunk driving – Impairment from alcohol or drugs is another main cause of car accidents. Such substances can impair your awareness and judgment, causing you to take more risks and disobey traffic signals and signs. Additionally, your movement and reaction time are delayed, which can increase your chances of being involved in a collision.

  • Speeding – Many motorists drive a few miles or so over the speed limit on the roads and freeways. However, driving at high speeds give you less time to properly react to unexpected road conditions. Furthermore, the higher the speed your vehicle is traveling, the most devastating the accident and injuries will be in the event of a crash.

  • Reckless driving – Careless driving without any regard for the safety of others on the road can also lead to crashes. Common examples of reckless driving include switching lanes without using your turn signals, tailgating, racing, making an illegal U-turn, running red lights or stop signs, or driving at night without your headlights on.

  • Bad weather – From rain and ice to fog and wind gusts, poor weather conditions can make the roads more treacherous by making them more slippery or reducing your visibility.
